Renewal

Substantive (local) trade marks are valid for 14 years from the filing date;
Re-registration trade marks expire upon the expiry date of the corresponding UK parent registration;
There is a 3 month grace period.

Use Provisions

Non-use of a mark for a period of 5 years from registration renders it open to an action for cancellation by third parties.

Substantive without priority;

Duration

Substantive (local) patents are valid for 16 years from the filing date;
Re-registration patents expiry upon the expiry date of the corresponding EP(UK) parent patent;

Renewal

Renewal fees for local patents are payable annually, from the 4th anniversary of the local filing date;
Renewal fees are now also being callled for by the Registrar in respect of re-registration patents, from the 4th anniversary of the EP(UK) filing date, although we do not agree with this interpretation of the law.
